We are IMHRO, an international mental health research organization. We are committed to funding cutting-edge science, and to supporting innovative services, to better diagnose, treat, prevent, and, ultimately, cure severe psychiatric diseases within a generation.
We are families and individuals whose lives have been touched by brain diseases – and who have catalyzed amazing advances in psychiatric research over two decades. Our generous contributors have raised over $200 million for research, and funded discoveries to improve lives now and tomorrow.
With mental illness ranked as the number one cause of adult disability in America, affecting 1 in 5 adults, the mission of IMHRO (officially One Mind Institute) is to alleviate human suffering from mental illness by funding scientific research into causes, prevention and new treatments. The goal of research is to lead to cures, with a focus on schizophrenia, bipolar disorders and depression. To further this purpose, IMHRO:
- Produces, supports, and builds awareness for fundraising events to raise money for mental health research
- Directs funding to the most promising research by soliciting and selecting proposals in the area of prevention, treatment, and cure of mental disorders
- Collaborates with affiliate organizations, people, and events worldwide to raise and direct funding—and minimize duplication of scientific effort
- Works to build awareness of the scientific achievements and possibilities
When Shari and Garen Staglin’s son Brandon was diagnosed with schizophrenia in 1990, they realized that advancements in scientific research were vital to understanding mental illness – and so they took action.
